After Touch combines a technical explanation of how virtual 3D sculptures are
created, with a narrative about the unseen forces shaping Joep van Lieshout’s Plane
Tree monument at Museum Perron Oost. Although the monument itself, as a museum
exhibit, cannot be physically touched, the performance highlights how economic,
political, and environmental factors—such as rising house prices, gentrification, and
air pollution—silently shape the monument and its environment.
Similarly, virtual spaces evoke a misleading sense of “untouchability.” In reality, they
are housed in physical data centers that profoundly impact their surroundings.
