Fortress of Tustan

The Fortress of Tustan used to be a large wooden defence fortification, built between 900 and 1600 Ad, in and around a group of rocks in present day Ukraine. Currently, the wooden fortress has disappeared completely, but the man-made holes that used to support the construction are still visible in the rocks.

Julia is particularly curious about the construction of a fictive image of this fortress; the acts and gestures produced by present-day visitors; and the narrative shaped by the tourist industry.

Julia made video registrations at location, and photographed the holes in the rock with a self made pinhole camera.
